An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DIFFERENT KIND OF DAY: Drier, cooler air moved into Alabama overnight, and we project delightful weather for Alabama today with ample sunshine along with a high in the upper 60s. We kick off the weekend with another sunny day tomorrow; the high will be in the 72-75 degree range. Just a fantastic day.

MOISTURE RETURNS SUNDAY: Models are coming into better agreement on this… both the GFS and the NAM now show moist air moving back into Alabama late in the weekend, with rain breaking out over the southern counties of the state Sunday morning, and showers moving up into North Alabama by afternoon. We will go ahead and amend our forecast to reflect this; I don’t think the rain will be all that heavy, but no doubt we will need to mention some risk of showers around here Sunday afternoon and into the evening hours. The high Sunday will be in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks warm and humid. While the sun will be out at times, we will also need to mention the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon showers Monday through Wednesday, much like a summer day. The high will be generally in the low 80s.

To the west, we note SPC has a severe weather risk up for parts of TX/OK/AR/LA on days 5/6, which is Tuesday and Wednesday, ahead of a fairly deep upper trough over the Rockies. The GFS shows a batch of strong storms moving into Alabama Thursday afternoon into Thursday night… that will need to be monitored for severe weather potential in coming days. Drier air arrives Friday.

See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas along with all of the maps, graphics, and details.
