Summer In The City

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

Anyone remember the Loving Spoonful song?

“Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city”

Yep… sure feels like summer today with warm and muggy conditions statewide. The best coverage of showers and storms is over Southwest Alabama, but a few widely scattered showers and storms remain possible over North Alabama through the evening hours.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Not much change in our thinking for the Memorial Day weekend… only a few isolated showers tomorrow, otherwise the weekend will be warm and dry with highs in the 86 to 90 degree range through Monday.

NEXT WEEK: We will bring back the chance of scattered showers and storms by Wednesday and Thursday of next week with a weak front moving into North Alabama and dissipating. The main threat of organized strong to severe storms will remain well to the west and north of Alabama.

VOODOO TROPICAL ACTION: The GFS continues the idea of a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico as we begin the month of June, the 12Z run once again brings it toward Tampa Bay. One thing is for sure, the GFS has sure been consistent with this feature.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

Brian Peters will have the Weather Xtreme video updates over the weekend and through all of next week… I will be taking some time off to spend with family. Thanks to all of the weather geeks for their help and allowing me a little down time… it will be good for the soul. Scroll down for my recommended trip to the Alabama coast this year… I hope you can join me on the journey this year! I will take pictures and post them next week as I have time. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, be safe, and God Bless.
