Alabama at Mid Afternoon

That area of showers over SW Alabama is still there, although the showers are moving toward the SE. This inlcudes a thunderstorm with locally heavy rain over South Clarke County and moving into Monroe County.

Meanwhile, over on the east side of the state, very close to the Georgia border, a narrow band of showers and storms has been redeveloping over basically the same area. Because of that, the National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a Special Weather Statement (Significant Weather Alert) for Cleburne County. The strongest thunderstorm was passing near or north of Heflin. Other communities affected are:

….Liberty Hill
….Edwardsville
….Oak Level
….Fruithurst
….Mars Hills
….Muscadine

This storm could possibly have hail up to 1/2 inch in diameter and 40 mph winds. It was moving east at about 17.
