Hurricane Season Begins Today

| June 1, 2013 @ 1:21 pm

It is the first of June and that means all eyes shift to the waters of the Atlantic. Today is the first day of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, and if all the forecast are accurate, it could be very busy over the next 6 months. Hurricane season typically runs through the end of November. Hopefully, it won’t be busy, but only time will tell.

Not much going on in the Tropical Atlantic today, but there is an invest area in the far southwestern Gulf of Mexico in the Bay of Campeche. The National Hurricane Center has a very low probability of development. Ten percent is their current probability as slow organization is expected and environmental conditions will not be favorable over the next 48 hours. Still have to keep and eye on it and if it does become strong enough to warrant a name it will be called Andrea.

Here is the list of names that will be used for 2013:

Andrea                  Humberto                  Olga
Barry                   Ingrid                    Pablo
Chantal                 Jerry                     Rebekah
Dorian                  Karen                     Sebastien
Erin                    Lorenzo                   Tanya
Fernand               Melissa                   Van
Gabrielle              Nestor                    Wendy
