WeatherBrains guest for this episode is not the man who soared to the upper reaches of the atmosphere just to jump out, but rather the meteorologist behind the overall project. Don Day is a professional meteorologist, and owner of DayWeather, Inc., a professional weather forecasting and consulting firm he started in Cheyenne, WY, in 1992. DayWeather provides weather forecast services for over 70 radio stations across the Rocky Mountain West. DayWeather also provide forecasts to many newspapers, aviation, construction, and agricultural clients. Don specializes in weather forecasting for competitive gas balloon events and stratospheric airship and stratospheric balloon flights. Don and his wife Heather live in Cheyenne with their daughter Kinsale.

Also joining us is Mike Sils, meteorologist with K2 TV News Team in Casper, WY. He has been there since June, 2012. Hailing from the Derby City of Louisville, KY, Mike is thrilled and proud to forecast the weather for K2 News. Mike is from just South of Louisville in a town called Mt. Washington where he is proud to trace back his Bluegrass roots! Graduating from Western Kentucky University in Spring of 2011, Mike earned a Bachelor’s degree in Land/Weather/Climate degree with a minor in Broadcast News. During Mike’s college career, he served as the WKU Storm Team manager, was an on-air Meteorologist for the award winning college television station with NewsChannel 12, and DJ for the college radio-station 91.7 WWHR as Thunderin’ Mike. Besides doing on-air weather for the university, Mike also worked at WNKY-TV in Bowling Green as a Floor Director and Master Control Operator for two and a half years.

As a member of both the National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society, Mike is eager to learn about Wyoming’s climate and extreme seasons. Mike enjoys challenges in forecasting which makes it vital to deliver the most accurate forecasts in regards to snow, severe weather, and the brisk winds.

When not forecasting, you can catch Mike exploring the great scenery Casper and Wyoming has to offer. Mike enjoys hiking, fishing, golfing, traveling, and his other love, culinary. Mike loves to talk to people and likes to engage on what they want to hear in the latest weather updates and forecasts.
