Rain to the West and Rain to the East

| July 4, 2013 @ 3:03 pm

Depending where you are in the state determines if you are seeing a wet or dry Independence Day. It is wet in the northwestern and southeastern portions of the state but there is currently a dry slot from Mobile to Montgomery to Birmingham to Gadsden. Heavy rains continue to fall across Sumter and Pickens County north into Tennessee Valley. To the southeast, rain is falling from Auburn to the Gulf Coast. Hopefully the dry slot will last into the overnight hours and all the fireworks shows can go off with no problem.

Expect additional showers and thunderstorms over the next couple of days as a very moist and unstable air mass remains in place across the state. This unsettled weather pattern will last into the at least Saturday. Don’t forget a flash flood watch remains in effect until at least Saturday for many areas across the area. Several more additional inches of rain can be expected through the weekend.
