Bad Wreck on I-65 SB/Showers and Storms Forming Already

| July 20, 2013 @ 11:18 am

FIRST AN IMPORTANT TRAFFIC NOTE
The @Spann Twitter Army alerted everyone to a major accident on I-65 southbound just south of Walkers Chapel Road. @JohnTalbot reports the SB interstate is closed. Lots of emergency vehicles. Southbound traffic backed up for miles with accidents in the traffic jam as well. Northbound traffic is starting to back up as well.

Avoid this area while emergency crews work to aid injured and clear the interstate.

WEATHER
Showers and thunderstorms are getting an early start on this Saturday ahead of a northward moving disturbance.

The radar looks like it is developing a bad case of the measles, with showers scattered all across the area. They are already showing lightning in eastern sections in Randolph and southern Cleburne Counties.

One of the fastest developing cells was west of Hueytown in western Jefferson County.

Showers and storms will become more widespread and heavy as we go into the afternoon hours. Look out for brief torrential rainfall, dangerous lightning and gusty winds.
