Severe Thunderstorm Warning Chambers/Coosa/Lee/Tallapoosa

UPDATE: Emergency manager of Tallapoosa County confirms damage from these storms. Several trees have been blown down in the Horseshoe Bend area as well as trees blown down in eastern portions of the county. Trees have been reported down on homes as well.

Severe storms are moving southeast across these areas and continues to have a threat for damaging winds. These storms are producing tremendous amount of lightning as well as very intense rainfall. Portions of Interstate 85, highways 280, 431, 80, 29 and the campuses of Auburn University and Southern Union Community College will be impacted by this dangerous storm.

* AT 116 PM CDT…THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDICATED A LINE OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS
OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM
RED LEVEL TO RIDGE GROVE TO DADEVILLE TO WIND CREEK STATE PARK…
AND MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 30 MPH.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…
STROUD…LAFAYETTE…AUBURN…OPELIKA…LANETT…VALLEY…SMITHS
AND WELCH.

THIS INCLUDES…
INTERSTATE 85 EXIT NUMBERS 51 THROUGH 79…

WINDS OF 60 TO 70 MPH WILL BREAK LARGE TREE LIMBS AND CAUSE SOME
DAMAGE…ESPECIALLY TO SMALLER STRUCTURES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

THESE STORMS HAVE A HISTORY OF PRODUCING WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE
ACROSS NORTHERN AND EASTERN TALLAPOOSA COUNTY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS
SITUATION. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY
FROM WINDOWS.
