NO SHOWERS AROUND HERE: A rare scene on a summer afternoon in Alabama… no showers or storms on radar. Not even on the Gulf Coast; we do see a few showers about 80 miles south of Dauphin Island. At 3:00 Birmingham reports a very comfortable 83 degrees with a dewpoint of 59 (relative humidity 44 percent). It is only 82 at Gadsden… and this is with sunshine in full supply.

Tonight will give us another fall preview; most places will drop well down into the 60s; the cooler pockets of Northeast Alabama should visit the 50s again.

REST OF THE WEEK: Basically more of the same, with just a slow warming trend. Mostly sunny days, fair nights through Friday. We might consider a small risk of a shower Friday afternoon as low level moisture levels rise a bit. Model guidance remains too hot; we project upper 80s tomorrow, 90 Wednesday, and highs at or just over 90 Thursday and Friday as the upper high to the northwest of the state gets a little closer.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: While we still expect a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday, we will mention some risk of widely scattered storms each afternoon. Highs will remain around 90 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: As we kick off meteorological fall, the weather looks pretty routine for early September next week. Some risk of an afternoon storm each day in scattered spots; highs 88-91 with a mix of sun and clouds each day.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet. Short lived Tropical Storm Fernand is over Mexico and dissipating; otherwise no sign of tropical trouble. The air across the deep tropics remains very dry; see the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Remember, this week’s show will be produced tomorrow night (not tonight!) at 8:30p CT.
