Cooler Air Arrives Friday Night

| September 11, 2013 @ 3:40 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

WARM, DRY AFTERNOON: Absolutely nothing on radar over Alabama today… seems like warmer air aloft has put a complete lid on shower formation. Temperatures are generally in the 87 to 91 degree range, just a little above average for early September, and the sky is partly to mostly sunny.

Not much change tomorrow; most places stay dry with a high around 90 along with a good supply of sunshine.

FRIDAY FRONT: A cold front will pass through the state Friday, and we will continue to mention the risk of a few showers along the front. Moisture will be limited, but a few places could see a little rain Friday afternoon as the surface boundary moves through.

COOLER AIR FRIDAY NIGHT: How about these projected lows early Saturday morning (from the 12Z NAM model)…

Yep… that is suggesting we might see a few upper 40s at daybreak Saturday in the cooler pockets of North Alabama. Most places should reach the 56-60 degree range along the I-20 corridor.

The weekend looks dry with ample sunshine; the high Saturday will be in the low 80s, followed by mid 80s Sunday. Humidity levels will be low.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS looks relatively dry Tuesday and Wednesday; initially we had hope of a beneficial rain event aroudn the middle of the week with moisture from possible Tropical Storm Ingrid moving in from the west, but the latest run keeps “Ingrid” well south of Brownsville, Texas with no moisture connection into the Deep South. For now we will just mention the risk of a few scattered showers on those two days.

TROPICS: Hurricane Humberto will stay in the middle of the Atlantic and is no threat to land; Tropical Storm Gabrielle is weakening as it moves northeast toward the Canadian maritimes. And, Invest 93L is moving into the Yucatan Peninsula and Central America… a decent chance it becomes Tropical Storm Ingrid late this week over the Bay of Campeche. From there it should move into the Mexican coast, well south of Brownsville, Texas.

Nothing to suggest any issues for the Central Gulf Coast anytime soon. In fact, the weather looks pretty nice from Panama City over to Gulf Shores through the weekend with about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day and just a few scattered showers or storms.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather should be generally dry for the high school games tomorrow and Friday night. Tomorrow night will feature a kickoff temperature near 85 degrees, falling into the 70s by the final whistle. Friday night will be cooler and less humid with upper 70s at kickoff, and potential for upper 60s by the fourth quarter.

For fans traveling to College Station, Texas for Alabama’s game against Texas A&M Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff), you don’t need to bring jackets or sweaters. The sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 94 degrees… falling back into the upper 80s by the final whistle.

For Auburn’s home game against Mississippi State (6:00p CT kickoff), the sky will be clear… the temperature close to 81 degrees at kickoff, then falling through the 70s during the game. Much more comfortable than the past two weeks at Jordan Hare Stadium.
