Morning Showers Pushing East

| October 19, 2013 @ 10:41 am

The weather is behaving according to the forecast this morning across Central Alabama. This is good news for scheduled sporting events in Tuscaloosa and Talladega.

At this hour, the visible satellite picture shows extensive cloudiness over all of Alabama except for a small portion of the West Central and northwestern sections of the state. The Skycam network bears this out, with sunshine at Hamilton, while the others are gray.

Temperatures are in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Light to moderate rain and showers cover much of the area south of I-59. Rainfall amounts are very light except in the brighter echoes, which are showing up from Chilton through Shelby and into western St. Clair Counties.

This activity is pushing east ahead of an approaching cold front. The front lies from New Albany MS to Natchez. It will across much of the area this afternoon and evening.

As the first batch of showers moves out, you can expect a brief period of clearing that will allow the mercury to warm into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Then the front will arrive, perhaps accompanied by a brief shower. Then skies should clear with a brisk northwesterly wind. You will notice that breeze after the frontal passage. Temperatures tonight will fall well into the 40s with a few 30s in the normally colder spots by morning.

The rain should be over for the afternoon action at Talladega except for perhaps a brief passing light shower during the race as the front passes. The rain should be long gone in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game by kickoff time. Skies are already clearing for the big Auburn game in College Station.
