RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling this afternoon over parts of West Tennessee and North Mississippi, but most all of Alabama is dry with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures mostly in the low 70s.

Showers will enter the northwest corner of the state around 6:00 p.m… then moving slowly southeast tonight. The band of showers should reach the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Gadsden, and Anniston areas around midnight. The air will be stable and there is no threat of severe weather, and I doubt if there is any thunder.

Rain amounts over Northwest Alabama will be around 1/2 inch, with lighter amounts, around 1/4 inch, down our way. The rain should be out of here by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, so most of you will sleep through the showers.

TURNING COLDER: A chilly northwest wind of 12-22 mph will usher in much colder air tomorrow; I doubt if we get out of the 50s, but at least the sky will become mostly sunny by mid-morning as the linger clouds dissipate very early in the day. We drop down into the mid to upper 30s by daybreak Friday, with some of the colder pockets possibly visiting the freezing mark.

Friday will feature maximum available sunshine with a high just over 60 degrees.

OUR WEEKEND: Delightful autumn weather continues, with sunny pleasant days and clear chilly nights. Highs will be in the 60s, with lows mostly in the 40s, although many communities could reach the upper 30s at daybreak Saturday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the first round of the high school football playoffs Friday night, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the mid 50s at kickoff into the 40s by the second half of the games. Great night for football.

Alabama hosts LSU Saturday night in Tuscaloosa (7:00p CT kickoff); the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 55 degrees, falling into the 40s during the second half. Auburn travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly sunny with temperatures rising from 56 at kickoff to near 61 degrees by the final whistle.

UAB is on the road; they play at Marshall Saturday in Huntingdon, West Virginia; the sky will be sunny with 52 degrees at kickoff, and 57 degrees by the end of the game. Doesn’t get much better for a November Saturday.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front will pass through Wednesday; for now it looks like any showers with the front will stay north of Alabama. Then, colder air blows in here Thursday and Friday; looks like many places could see a freeze by early Thursday and Friday morning. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

I had a great time today visiting with a large home school group at Shades Mountain Independent Church… they will be on the ABC 33/40 KIDCAM tomorrow at 5:00; tonight I will be live from Disney on Ice at the BJCC. We will be there collecting Toys for Tots as we kick off this year’s drive; bring a new, unwrapped toy if you are coming.
