An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

No, tonight won’t be as cool as last night, but we will drop down into the mid 60s, with the cooler spots winding up close to 60 by daybreak tomorrow.

Humidity levels will slowly rise during the latter half of the week, and the 12Z GFS has come in to match the NAM, showing a good moisture return by Friday statewide. Accordingly, looks like we will need to hit the chance of scattered, mainly afternoon showers and storms a little harder Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. After all, it doesn’t stay rain-free here in July for long periods of time.

A key to the forecast is the weak low pressure area over the Northeast Gulf of Mexico. Certainly the heaviest rain from this feature will be over the Florida peninsula, but seems like some of that deeper moisture might creep into Southeast Alabama by the end of the week.

TROPICAL WEATHER: We will keep an eye on the disturbed weather in the Northeast Gulf for any signs of organization… we are also watching waves out in the tropical Atlantic near 50W and 33W; both of these are low latitude systems that have some potential for development in coming days. The system at 50W is forecast to move through the northern Caribbean, possibly developing into tropical storm Cristobal.

We note a strong tropical wave that will move off the coast of Africa tomorrow. Sure seems like the tropics are coming alive, which is fairly typical for mid to late July. The peak of the season usually comes in August, September, and early October.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
