FREEZING START: Here are some temperatures across the great state of Alabama at daybreak…

Coker 28
Concord 28
Haleyville 28
Fayette 29
Decatur 29
Cullman 31
Tuscaloosa 32
Valley Head 32
Birmingham 34 (still with a northwest wind of 8 mph for a wind chill index of 27)
Chelsea 35

DRY THROUGH TOMORROW: Today will be sunny but cool with a high in the mid 50s… about ten degrees below average for March 13 (our average high today for Birmingham is 66). Tomorrow will also feature a good supply of sunshine; after a morning low in the mid 30s, we rise into the mid to upper 60s by afternoon. Then, clouds thicken tomorrow night.

WEEKEND WET AT TIMES: The weekend still looks wet at times; getting better clarity on the timing. No doubt we could see a little light rain during the day Saturday, but the GFS hints the most widespread rain will come from about 6:00 p.m. Saturday through 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

QPF values have come up; it looks like most places around here will see one to two inches. This is ECMWF model output through Sunday evening…

Heaviest rain should be over the southern half of the state, where some spots could see over two inches.

Some thunder is possible, but severe weather is not expected. Highs over the weekend will be in the 60s, and you won’t see much sun. Some hope a little sun could break out Sunday afternoon after the rain ends, however.

NEXT WEEK: At this point our weather looks rain-free Monday through Thursday with mild afternoons and cool nights. Monday’s high will be in the low 60s, but then the high will be close to 70 through mid-week.

The good news is that we still see no major severe weather issues through the rest of March; see the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
