FINE FRIDAY: What a beautiful day across the great state of Alabama; ample sunshine with temperatures in the 60s this afternoon. But, our weather will change over the weekend.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: Clouds return to Alabama tonight ahead of a developing storm system to the west, and the sky tomorrow will be generally cloudy. The 12Z model set shows very little rain during the day, so while I can’t rule out the risk of a shower in a few spots, most of the day should be dry with a high between 67 and 70 degrees.

RAIN RETURNS TOMORROW NIGHT INTO SUNDAY: Still looks like the window for the widespread rain across Alabama will come from about midnight tomorrow night through noon Sunday. However, some rain could clearly linger into Sunday afternoon, especially over East Alabama. Some thunderstorms could be involved since there will be some surface based instability, but severe weather doesn’t look likely with the higher shear values well to the east of the instability axis. SPC doesn’t not show any formal severe weather for for Alabama Sunday, although the do show the low end 5 percent possibilities over the southwest part of the state.

Rain amounts of at least one inch are likely, and some places could see nearly two inches of rain over the weekend across North/Central Alabama.

SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY: A secondary wave will bring the risk of some light rain at times to our state, and Monday will be cooler with a cloudy sky and daytime temperatures generally in the 50s.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: It looks dry Tuesday through Friday with mostly sunny days and fair nights along with seasonal temperatures; highs will be in the 66 to 70 degree range. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Just a few widely scattered showers tomorrow along the Central Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores; rain and storms are likely Sunday into Monday. Then, mostly rain-free weather for the rest of next week. Highs will be mostly in the 60s along the immediate coast; the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is a cool 59 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
