Alabama Update 3:55pm

| July 23, 2008 @ 3:56 pm | Reply

A long line of thunderstorms now stretches almost all the way across the Tennessee Valley from Florence and Muscle Shoals on the west all the way to Huntsville and Scottsboro. The line of thunderstorms was moving toward the southeast.

The National Weather Service/Huntsville has posted a Significant Weather Alert for several counties because of the storms including Limestone, Madison, DeKalb and South Jackson.

Ahead of that main line, a strong thunderstorm was over West Cullman County passing west and SW of the city of Cullman. The NWS changed the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for that one to a Significant Weather Alert until 4:15.

It is going to be one of those afternoons where almost any noisy thunderstorm approaching your area could have very dangerous lightning, strong gusty winds and brief heavy downpours.

A separate thunderstorm was near Fayette in West Alabama. It, too, was moving SE and may cross into Northern Tuscaloosa County. The Cullman County storm will eventually reach SW Blount County and extreme North Jefferson County, if it does not weaken.
