RADAR CHECK: As you might expect on a very warm, humid day, we have a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms across North/Central Alabama this afternoon. They are moving north, and some are producing brief heavy downpours and some lightning. Otherwise, the sky is partly sunny, and temperatures are in the mid to upper 80s.

WET DAY TOMORROW: A cold front and upper trough will bring showers and thunderstorms to Alabama tomorrow. The best coverage of rain will come tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night, although some morning rain sure can’t be ruled out.

SPC maintains the standard “slight risk” of severe weather for parts of North and West Alabama…

If we have severe storms around here tomorrow afternoon, the main threat would come from hail and gusty winds; the core tornado threat will be well to the north, where higher helicity values will exist over states like Kentucky and Ohio.

Rain amounts across North/Central Alabama should be in the 1/2 to 1 inch range.

THURSDAY: Rain will end from west to east during the morning hours, and the weather turns much cooler. Most communities won’t get out of the 60s with clouds hanging tough much of the day, although some clearing is possible by mid to late afternoon. Then, Thursday night, temperatures will drop pretty quickly, and we project lows in the 40s early Friday morning.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The weather looks generally dry, and temperatures will be below average due to big upper trough over the eastern third of the nation. Waves rotating through the base of the trough will bring scattered clouds, and there might even be a few sprinkles or showers at some point, but the air will be very dry in the low levels, and the best chance of raindrops will come over far North Alabama. Highs will be around 70 Friday, with mid 70s Saturday and Sunday.

Dry weather continues into the first half of next week with temperatures rising back into the 80s.

HANGOUT MUSIC FESTIVAL: While scattered showers and storms are possible on the Gulf Coast tomorrow and Thursday, the weather will be picture perfect Friday through Sunday with sunny days, fair nights, and no rain. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 70s. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is up to 79 degrees.

WEATHER RADIO HELP: We will be at the Publix on Highway 150 in Hoover tomorrow from 3:30 until 6:30. If you need your weather radio programmed or checked, some see us.
