HEATING UP: Temperatures are not quite as warm as forecast this afternoon; Tuscaloosa reports 89… Birmingham 87… Anniston 87 at 3:00 p.m. Still, for most places this is the warmest day so far in 2014. The sky is mostly sunny, and there is no rain on radar across our state.

TO THE NORTH: A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for parts of Kentucky and Tennessee, but those storms should remain north of Alabama. Large hail is the main threat over East Tennessee this evening.

TOMORROW: Not much change; partly to mostly sunny with a high near 90 degrees. The chance of rain is so small it isn’t worth mentioning in the forecast.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: No overall change; partly sunny, hot days and fair nights. Highs around 90 Saturday through Monday, with morning lows in the 60s. A few isolated afternoon showers or storms could pop up on radar, but they should be widely spaced, and a large percentage of Alabama will remain dry.

The upper high will slowly weaken by the middle of next week, which could open the door for a better chance of afternoon showers and storms, but no real widespread rain is expected. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Looks great through the holiday weekend, with sunny days and fair nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the low 80s, but closer to 90 degrees inland. Sea water temperatures are mostly in the upper 70s.

HURRICANE SEASON OUTLOOK: NOAA expects near to below average activity across the Atlantic basin this season in their outlook released this morning…
