RADAR CHECK: The last batch of showers associated with the upper short wave is on the Georgia border at daybreak, and will be long gone by the time you read this.

Sinking air motion on the back side of the departing wave should help to offset the rising air parcels we will see later today due to the daytime heating process, and accordingly we believe showers will be harder to find today. Certainly the chance of rain is not zero, but showers and storms this afternoon will be isolated… we should see a pretty decent amount of sun with a high in the 87 to 90 degree range.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: Models are showing a higher coverage of showers and storms on these two days, but they will still be scattered, and rain distribution will be rather uneven with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: No reason at this point to depart from the standard summer Alabama forecast. Partly sunny days, and the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. The afternoon high will be at or just under 90 degrees.

And, no real change next week. The strength of the upper high over the region will determine heat levels and the coverage of afternoon showers and storms. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day on the Gulf Coast from Panama City over to Gulf Shores through the weekend, with the usual risk of a passing thunderstorm from time to time. Highs on the immediate coast in the upper 80s, and sea water temperatures are mostly in the mid 80s. No sign of any tropical storm/hurricane issues anytime soon.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
