Warmer for the Weekend

If you like sunshine and a warming trend, you will like today. We have started the day out on a chilly note with morning lows dipping back into the 20s once again. But with a clear sky today we should see highs climbing nearly 35 degrees with highs reaching the lower and middle 60s across Central Alabama.

The good weather continues into Sunday, but we will see more clouds as clouds increase ahead of another cold front that is expected to traverse Central Alabama on Monday. Rain chances on Monday with the front will be low as most spots stay dry, but you might see a little rain. The cool down will last into Tuesday, but we should see a nice warmup by Wednesday as sunshine returns in full force and we see highs reach back into the lower 60s.

A very strong trough will dig into the eastern US Thursday plunging us back into cold weather for the end of the week and the start of next weekend. Looks like we will see mainly clouds with this system, too, but there will be some chance for rain as moisture again remains limited.

The long wave trough position becomes established over the eastern third of the US, so we are going to stay cold as we end the week ahead and move out into the first days of voodoo country. It looks like Week 2 or voodoo land will be dominated by the trough over the eastern third of the country. The GFS even shows some potential winter mischief around the 17th of February as the pattern remains cold. But we should see a warmup by the end of Week 2 as ridging replaces the deep trough around the 21st and 22nd.
