| February 20, 2015 @ 7:06 pm

Light to moderate freezing rain is moving across parts of Marion, Fayette and Walker Counties at this hour.

Temperatures are at or just below freezing across the area. Light accumulations of ice will continue to fall in these counties and into Cullman, Blount and northern Jefferson Counties over the next hour.

Southern parts of the Birmingham Metro should remain mainly dry. The temperature at the airport has now risen to 33F.

It just takes a little bit of freezing rain to produce virtually impassable roads and many roads in the affected counties already have ice from earlier. Please limit travel to only urgent trips if you can.

Temperatures should continue to warm overnight over areas west of I-65, but will be slow to rise above freezing in the Northeast part of the state where the wedge continues to pull colder air in from the northeast.
