Change to Snow Happening Over Northwest Alabama

| February 25, 2015 @ 1:01 pm

The precipitation is changing to to snow over Northwest Alabama, a little ahead of schedule this afternoon. It is now snow heavily in Hamilton. Reports indicate that the snow starts to accumulate as soon as the changeover occurs.

Jim Westland at the NWS Birmingham reports that the freezing level over Birmingham has dropped to 1000 feet. This means that the melting level is nearly to the ground and the changeover is not far away.

Looking at the BMX radar, it looks like the changeover area is from Cullman through Walker into Fayette County, with generally all snow behind that.
