A clear sky overnight allowed temperatures to fall well back into the 20s to make for a crisp start to the weekend. Out Skywatcher at Black Creek reported a low of 18. But with plenty of sunshine, Central Alabama should warm nicely today with highs climbing into the lower 60s. The warm up continues into Sunday as moisture continues to increase with a strong southwesterly flow aloft. I believe we stay dry on Sunday but there is an outside chance at a few showers especially across West Central Alabama late in the day Sunday.
After Sunday, the rest of the week looks fairly wet with a well established southwesterly flow aloft as a closed low/trough remains just to our west. This will keep a generous supply of Pacific moisture coming into the Southeast US with generous chances for rain each day of the week ahead. QPF forecasts suggest a band of rainfall from East Tennessee to the Texas Gulf Coast in the range of 3 to 6 inches, so March could get a big dose of rain. Fortunately this is also a fairly warm pattern, so while clouds will keep the effects of the sunshine in check somewhat, we’ll see daily highs from the upper 50s into the 60s just about each day of the week, fairly typical for March.
The persistent pattern of the trough just to our west will continue into the start of voodoo country, or week two, so don’t look for an end to the wet pattern until around the 16th. By the end of week two around the 22nd, the GFS is painting another substantial trough over the eastern half of the US which brings another chill down to the eastern US showing that winter is not yet over.
