Trending Hotter And Drier After Today

| June 12, 2015 @ 6:25 am

HOTTER DAYS AHEAD: Alabama’s weather won’t change much today; we expect a mix of sun and clouds, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin to form later today. Best chance of a passing thunderstorm will come after 2:00 p.m., and the chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in three. The high today will be in the mid to upper 80s, not far from the average high of 87 degrees for June 12.

An upper ridge will build in from the east over the weekend, and our weather will trend hotter and drier. While an afternoon storm is still possible tomorrow and Sunday, they will be fewer in number. And, afternoon temperatures will creep up into the low 90s.

NEXT WEEK: Hot, humid weather is the story Monday through Wednesday, with decent potential for mid 90s all three days. And, because of the warm air aloft associated with the upper ridge, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will remain few and far between. Then, the ridge weakens later in the week, and there should be a gradual increase in the number of scattered showers and thunderstorms by Thursday and Friday with heat levels back off a bit. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical storm formation is not expected through next week across the Atlantic basin.

AT THE BEACH: Expect about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily along the Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores over the weekend, and through the middle of next week with a few widely scattered thunderstorms around each day. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the 82 to 85 degree range, and in the low 90s just a few miles inland.
