Heat Levels Slowly Backing Down

| July 21, 2015 @ 6:18 am

WARM SUMMER MORNING: Birmingham reports 80 degrees at daybreak with a dew point of 75… must be the middle of summer in Alabama. Birmingham’s official high yesterday was 98; Tuscaloosa peaked at 100 degrees… we project a high in the mid 90s today with a mix of sun and clouds. And, during the heat of the day, scattered storms will develop again this afternoon. Best chance of a passing storm will come from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pretty classic late July weather.

REST OF THE WEEK: The heat ridge is weakening across the Deep South, this will open the door for scattered showers and thunderstorms to become more numerous tomorrow and Thursday. And, accordingly, heat levels will come down with the high close to 90 on both days; some communities would hold in the 80s. We also note that SPC has much of Central Alabama in a “marginal” severe weather risk both days, so storms that form could produce strong gusty winds, and maybe a wet microburst or two (local areas of high wind, enough to knock down trees and power lines).

Scattered showers and storms remain likely Friday with a partly sunny sky, but they should begin to thin out a bit with a high back up in the low to mid 90s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The ridge rebuilds, so heat levels will rise, and the coverage of scattered showers and storms will decrease Saturday and Sunday. Highs in the mid 90s both days with hazy sunshine and widely scattered storms both afternoons.

Similar weather early next week… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Looking good through the weekend along the coast from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach; about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily with the risk of a passing thunderstorm from time to time. Highs on the immediate coast in the upper 80s, with mid 90s just a few miles inland. Sea water temperatures are in the mid 80s. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: The classic El Nino pattern continues; very quiet in the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected this week.
