Dry Weather Continues; Warmer Afternoons

| October 20, 2015 @ 5:53 am

LONG DRY SPELL CONTINUES: Today will be the tenth consecutive day with no measurable rain for most of Alabama, and the streak continues at least through Friday with mostly sunny days, clear nights, and a slow warming trend. We reach the low 70s today, mid 70s tomorrow, and then low 80s are likely by Thursday and Friday. Early morning lows tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday morning will be mostly in the 50s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be warm and dry with a high at or just over 80 degrees with a partly sunny sky. The latest global model data hints a decent part of the day Sunday will stay dry, although we will mention some risk of showers by afternoon with an upper trough approaching. Sunday’s high will drop back into the mid 70s with an increase in cloud cover.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like Monday will be relatively wet with the upper trough; occasional showers are likely with a high in the upper 60s. A few lingering showers are possible Tuesday, and the rest of the week looks mostly rain-free. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: Dry weather is the story at the Talladega Superspeedway this week and into Saturday with mostly sunny, warm days and fair, cool nights. The forecast challenge involves Sunday; the good news is that models have trended drier for the eastern half of Alabama, and at this point it looks like only an outside risk of a shower Sunday afternoon. The high Saturday at Talladega will be near 80, with highs in the mid 70s Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama will host Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff… the weather will be partly sunny and warm with temperatures falling from around 82 at kickoff, into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter. No significant chance of rain.

Auburn is on the road; they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 11:00a CT Saturday. The sky will be mostly cloudy, with a passing shower or thunderstorm likely during the game. Temperatures will hover in the 67-70 degree range. Take the rain gear.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights on the coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through Saturday; just a few widely scattered showers Sunday. Highs mostly in the 70s, lows mostly in the 60s. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: A disturbance over the far western Caribbean will drift into Central America today with no development in the short term; it could emerge over the Bay of Campeche later this week.
