Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Feels Like Christmas

| December 18, 2015 @ 6:13 am

COLD AIR RETURNS: We are starting the day with temperatures mostly in the low to mid 30s with a clear sky across the great state of Alabama. We expect a cloudless sky today with a high in the 47 to 50 degree range this afternoon, which is below the average high of 55 for December 18 (for Birmingham).

The weekend will feature sunny cool days and clear cold nights. We are forecasting a low between 26 and 29 degrees early tomorrow, with low 20s for the colder valleys. The high tomorrow will be in the mid 50s, followed by upper 50s Sunday.

CHRISTMAS WEEK: Moisture returns Monday, and a few showers could break out by afternoon. Then, showers and thunderstorms become more likely Tuesday and Wednesday. We will be watching for severe weather potential Wednesday with a strong upper trough to the west, and a surface low forming south of Memphis. But, it is simply too early to know if there will actually be a threat of severe storms. We hope not since so many people will be traveling; just it is a possibility.

We will mention the risk of a few lingering showers Thursday, and dry air returns Christmas Day, December 25. The weather will be comfortable next week with highs in the 60s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
