New tornado warning from Jackson for Bolivar County in the Delta. Strong rotation crossing the River near Arkansas City.

Another tornado warning just issued for Washington County MS for strong rotation moving aross from Chicot Co, AR.

A PDS Tornado Watch covers much of northern and central Mississippi as well as adjoinging parts of Arkansas and SW Tennessee until 9 p.m.

Greenwood MS recorded a wind gust to 60 mph a short time ago, with no thunderstorms involved.

We will see sustained winds 20-30 mph overnight with occasional sustained winds as high as 45 mph even with no thunderstorms involved. Gusts could exceed 50 mph.

We will see increasing rain and storms when the warm advection pattern reaches western sections of the state around 8 p.m. Dewpoints will jump into the high 50s and 60s right ahead of the main line of supercells. This will provide the fuel to keep things going until around 3 a.m. or so.

The first storms shoudl reach Tuscaloosa around 9 p.m. and Birmingham around 10 p.m. These will not have significant severe weather with them.

But then the main line will arrive in western sections around 9 or 10 p.m., Tuscaloosa around 10:30, Birmigham around 11:30 and then east of I-65 after midnight. This line will feature widespread damaging winds gusting to over 80 mph and isolated tornadoes.

A wind advisory is in effect for our area overnight. Now would be a good time to go outside and ecure any loose objects that could be blown by the strong winds.

If you have not done so, now is a great time to think about where you will be tonight and rehearse your severe weather pan for that location. You need to be ready to act instinctively.

Please do not go to bed tonight without having a reliable source of weather warnings that will wake you up…and if you have friends or family who might not know about the weather threat…take a moment to call them and let them know…

Also…we want our friends in mobile homes will want to make plans to be in a more substantial structure such as a permanent home when the storms arrive later tonight.

Our goal is no tornado or wind related fatalities in Alabama tonight…let’s work together to make that happen.
