NEW WARNING
Severe thunderstorm warning just issued for Dallas and Perry Counties in South Central Alabama.

The warning includes Marion, Selma, Orrville and Valley Grande.

Intense thunderstorms from Uniontown to Yellow Bluff. The most intense part of the storms will move toward Orrville.

GULF COAST SITUATION
The rotation on the storm moving into Orange Beach has weakened a bit but folks along the Alabama/Florida border from Gonzalez down to Pensacola need to be in safe shelter from this dangerous storm.

THE LATEST ON THE CENTRAL ALABAMA WEATHER SITUATION
The severe weather threat is fading for Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, Anniston and Birmingham.

A large mesoscale convective vortex is lifting northeastward across West Central Alabama tonight. The comma head is centered near Uniontown with storms curving back to west of Orrville to east of Thomasville on back to Chatom, west of Mobile and to near Lucedale in Mississippi. Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect all along this system’s length.

The severe weather threat is basically over for areas north of a line from Butler to Linden to Greensboro to Brent to Alabaster.

Areas south of that line over South and South Central Alabama are still under the gun with tornado watches in effect.

To the west, additional storms have formed near the low and its attendant cold front. The low is near Greenwood MS tonight, where the barometer just read 29.49 inches. I found a lower reading at Clarksdale where it read 29.39. There are severe thunderstorm warnings on those storms. They should weaken overnight, but we will be tracking them.

LATE NOTE FROM LOUISIANA
3 fatalities are reported out of Louisiana.
