Sunny Days, Clear Nights

| February 26, 2016 @ 6:03 am

DRY AIR: Expect another cool, dry day across Alabama. With a sunny sky, most communities will rise into the mid 50s this afternoon, about five degrees below average for late February.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Sunny weather continues with a warming trend. We will see a high close to 60 tomorrow, followed by mid to upper 60s Sunday.

MONDAY:A weak surface front will bring clouds, and the risk of widely scattered showers Monday. Moisture will be limited, and dynamic support weak, so rain amounts will be light and spotty. The high will remain in the 60s.

MID-WEEK: Tuesday looks very mild; the GFS is printing a high of 71 for Birmingham. We will forecast a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night ahead of a cold front, but the good news is that the overall risk of severe weather for now looks low. The main surface low passes far north of Alabama, along with the best upper support. Storms should weaken as they move into the state, and while they could bring gusty winds, it just doesn’t look like a severe weather setup for now. Rain amounts will be around 1/2 inch Tuesday night, not enough for any flooding concerns.

Wednesday will be breezy and colder with temperatures hovering in the 40s much of the day; maybe even a few snow flurries over far Northeast Alabama (but no impact).

Dry weather will be the story for Thursday and Friday with a slow warming trend. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
