Drier Air To Creep Into North Alabama Wednesday

| July 16, 2018 @ 3:35 pm

RADAR CHECK: The weather is relatively quiet over North/Central Alabama this afternoon thanks to a batch of showers and storms that moved through earlier today. The morning convection left behind rain-cooled, stable air with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. We do note a few strong storms on radar at mid-afternoon over Pickens, Greene, and Sumter Counties in West Alabama…. they are drifting slowly to the south.

Hot, Humid Independence Day Weather; A Few Storms

| July 4, 2018 @ 6:25 am

EARLY MORNING FIREWORKS: An easterly wave was responsible for the development of some robust thunderstorms across Alabama during the pre-dawn hours; they brought nature’s fireworks with a vivid lightning display, and in some cases strong, gusty winds. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of Shelby and St. Clair Counties a little before 3:00 a.m…. a few trees were brought down by that storm. The storms have mostly dissipated at daybreak.

It’s not much, but a slight increase in clouds, moisture, and shower coverage along with the slight lessening of the upper ridge for the next couple of days should result in lowering temperatures a few degrees, but highs will still be in the 90s. A heat advisory was in effect today for the Alabama counties […]

Hot and Mostly Dry

Not much change in the overall thinking for our weather in Central Alabama as we continue to watch events develop in the western Gulf of Mexico. Bill is not yet Bill, but could become Bill at almost any time. Over the Southeast US, high pressure at the surface and aloft is keeping a clockwise circulation […]

While there were a few more showers and thunderstorms yesterday than expected, the trend for hotter and drier weather still seems on track as both surface high pressure and an upper ridge work their way into the Southeast US over the next few days. The impact of this will be to push convection off to […]
