Already seeing reports of iced bridges in Sumter County Alabama and numerous accidents in Meridian. Conditions will continue to deteriorate over West Central Alabama this afternoon, spreading northeast with time. The precipitation could reach the Birmingham area as early as mid-afternoon.
The sleet and freezing rain could transition over to snow for a few hours this evening as evaporative cooling occurs, but it very well could switch back to all freezing rain later tonight in the I-20 corridor, creating a potentially disastrous ice storm situation.
