Bankhead Lock and Dam – Preview

| 5:53 am August 1, 2008 | Comments (6)

Wow! What a rush! James and I made it through the 68 foot drop in Bankhead Lock onto Holt Lake, got some close-up views of Bankhead Dam, and locked back through on Thursday. We acted like 11 year old kids. But, sometimes in life you have to do something a little crazy and have some fun. (My wife tells me I’m about the maturity of an 8-year old anyway, and my sister-in-law thinks I’m closer to my 19-month old nephew).

After 8 hours in the boat on a hot day, several hours of which after my hat blew off and sank, I crashed on the couch when I got home, no dinner, and woke up at 2 am. Still worn out, so here is a short preview of some of the pictures we took today (sorry, a little grainy). James and I will have more pictures and video later. The sounds in the lock as were great…so the video is awesome.

Good pics. back in the mid to late 60s we used to have a family reunion fishing weekend just below Bankhead Dam (Lock 17) and just below the old Lock 16 (which isnt there anymore). It looks as if nothing has changed out there in the past 40 years.
