Summer Preview Continues

| May 5, 2015 @ 6:08 am

WARM AND DRY: If you enjoyed the weather yesterday across Alabama, you will like the forecast for the rest of the week. An upper ridge holds, and will keep the primary storm track across the nation well to the west and north, so we will continue to forecast sunny warm days and fair nights through Friday. Highs will remain in the 80s, with early morning lows in the upper 50s and low 60s. No need to mention any risk of rain for the rest of the week.

TO THE EAST: Models continue to develop a sub-tropical low just off the southern Atlantic coast of the U.S. tomorrow and Thursday; this feature stays just offshore, but it could bring some wind and rain to the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina. Steering currents collapse, and this feature could hang around for a while, but it remains east of Alabama through the weekend and there will be no impact on our weather. If a sub-tropical system does form, it will be called “Ana”.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Temperatures could very well approach the 90 degree mark in a few spots Saturday and Sunday afternoon as our summer preview continues. The weekend looks mostly dry; we might consider a small risk of a shower or storm Sunday afternoon as moisture levels begin to rise.

NEXT WEEK: Widely scattered showers or storms are possible early next week, but the rain probably won’t be very widespread or heavy, and there is certainly no risk of severe weather as heights remain above average, and the storm track stays to the west. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days and fair nights will continue from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the weekend; highs on the immediate coast will be in the mid to upper 70s, with 80s inland. Sea water temperatures are generally in the mid 70s.
