A cold front moving through today may squeeze out a few raindrops, but a strong cold front will bring rain and storms to end 2020 and to start 2021 on a wet note. Here is what I have for you today.
It’s beautiful out there right now across the state but clouds and a few showers will move in overnight. Monday, Tuesday, and most of Wednesday will be dry, but heavy rain and some storms will return Wednesday night and much of Thursday. Severe weather is a possibility. It appears wintry precip will stay to our west though.
Today will be a nice day, with increasing clouds late in the afternoon. Look for breezy conditions overnight with a shower possible after midnight. Dry for Monday, Tuesday, and much of Wednesday, before rain and some thunder returns Wednesday night through much of Thursday. Colder weather returns Friday when there could be a few snowflakes again over North Alabama, but no accumulations are expected.
High pressure rules the weather over the Southeastern US today which has given us maximum sunshine and noon temperatures in the 40s across Central Alabama.
We stay cool and dry today, but a little bit of a warm up can be expected on Sunday. Rain and a few storms will return on late Wednesday which will bring a good soakin’ to the area.
ANOTHER VERY COLD NIGHT: So far the high in Birmingham today is 37 degrees; this is only the 12th time the city has experienced a high below 40 degrees on December 25 since 1900. The sky will stay clear tonight, and we project lows ranging from 15 to 25 degrees early tomorrow morning.
It is a gorgeous Christmas Day across Alabama with sunshine in full supply, but it remains very cold as temperature are in the upper 20s and lower 30s at midday, and many locations will struggle to reach the mid and upper 30s this afternoon.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! A very dry airmass has settled into Alabama this morning, and we expect sunshine in full supply today, but cold air will remain. We project a high this afternoon between 36 and 42 degrees; the average high for Birmingham on Christmas Day is 54.
