The high resolution HRRR does show the band of rain and storms reaching the I-65 corridor later tonight.

TOMORROW: A moist airmass remains in place, and showers are certainly possible statewide, but the best chance of rain during the day should come over the western counties, mostly west of I-65. The sky will be mostly cloudy and the high will be in in the mid 70s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A shower or two is possible during the day Saturday, but the most widespread rain should come Saturday night into Sunday morning as the upper trough lifts out of Mexico and weakens. A strong storm is possible, but again parameters don’t favor severe storms, and flooding is not expected. Highs over the weekend stay in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS suggests Monday will be rain-free for most of the state, and Tuesday will be warm and dry with a high at or just over 80 degrees; it should be one of the warmest days so far this year. A cold front will bring a chance of rain and storms Wednesday night into Thursday… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Showers and storms are likely for places like Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, and Pensacola Beach through the weekend; the weather will be drier for Destin and Panama City Beach. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the 60s due to the cool ocean water, with 70s inland. And, the danger of rip tides will continue through the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

STORM SPOTTER TRAINING: We are offering basic SKYWARN training at several locations across North/Central Alabama in March, followed by the big event, Storm Spotter Xtreme on Saturday, April 9 at the BJCC from 9am to 2pm. This will feature both the basic and advanced SKYWARN classes, along with a session from Kevin Laws of the Birmingham NWS office. And, if you come, you get free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show, going on at the BJCC that same day. There is no cost and no need to register. Just show up with a curious mind. Kids 10 and older will also enjoy this if they love weather and want to learn more. Please help us make the severe weather warning process better!

We will be in Cullman next Tuesday evening…
