Variety in Alabama Weather

| March 26, 2016 @ 11:12 am

There is some variety in Alabama’s weather this morning. You can divide the state into two parts, the sunny northwest half and the cloudy southeast half, as seen in the satellite image below.

This also translates into some temperature differences! The sun has been out across the northwest half, so temperatures have climbed a good bit with readings at 11 am in the 50s to lower 60s. Fog, clouds, and some showers have kept the temperatures from changing much across the southeast half of the state where readings were in the 60s, not far from where they began the day.

While the cloud edge has moved northward a little since sunrise, it probably won’t move much further northward and will likely recede to the southeast with time into the early afternoon. It turned cloudy at my house, but I suspect it will return to sunshine in the next couple of hours. Clouds will likely stay put across the most extreme southeast counties of Alabama today.

Unfortunately for those at the coast for spring break, rain has been the main weather for much of the morning. But take heart, it looks like the rain has gradually ended over the Alabama counties, and I expect to see the rain end over much of the western portions of the Florida Panhandle. Only the furtherest east counties, from Panama City eastward, are likely to have the best rain chances into the afternoon.
