Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

A Few Scattered Showers/Storms

| May 10, 2016 @ 6:14 am

RADAR CHECK: While most of Alabama is dry early this morning, we do note a band of storms moving across the far northern part of the state over the Tennessee Valley…

These storms are below severe limits, but are producing brief heavy rain and a good bit of lightning. They will stay mainly north of U.S. 278 early this morning (north of a line from Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden).

Otherwise, we expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a high back in the low to mid 80s. Showers and storms are possible, but they will be widely spaced and a decent part of the day will be dry.

TOMORROW: Partly sunny and warm; a high in the mid 80s, and only isolated showers. Most communities will not have any significant rain.

THURSDAY: An approaching cold front will bring an increase in the number of showers and storms, especially late Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. We don’t expect severe weather to be an issue, although SPC has defined a “marginal risk” of severe storms for about the northern quarter of the state…

Rain amounts should be around 1/2 inch.

FRIDAY: Drier air enters North Alabama, and the best chance of showers will shift down into the southern counties of the state. The sky becomes partly to mostly sunny with a high close to 80.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looking great. Sunny pleasant days, clear cool nights. The high Saturday will be close to 80, followed by low 80s Sunday. Early morning lows will be in the 50s, and the humidity will be fairly low. Not many like this left before the summer arrives.

NEXT WEEK: Monday looks warm and dry, but showers and storms will likely return to the state on Tuesday… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: A few scattered showers/storms are possible today, and then again Friday, otherwise mostly sunny days and fair nights from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores through early next week. Highs on the immediate coast will be close to 80, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… too early for a specific forecast, but climatology suggests highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s during that part of May. Get more information about the tournament here.
