Heavier storms have produced small hail, but they have been well under severe limits so far. SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe weather for North Alabama this evening…

With weak dynamic support and marginal instability values/lapse rates, severe weather shouldn’t be much of an issue, but we could see a few more reports of small hail and gusty winds. Showers and storms will end from northwest to southeast tonight as a cold front passes through and dry air moves in.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Sunny pleasant days, clear cool nights. The high tomorrow will be close to 80, followed up upper 70s Saturday and mid 70s Sunday. The latest GFS suggests we could see lows in the upper 40s as far south as Birmingham early Sunday. Humidity values will be low all weekend.

NEXT WEEK: Monday looks warmer and dry; seems like the best chance of showers and storms will come on Wednesday and Thursday with a weak front just north of our state. Severe weather potential remains low… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: A few scattered showers and storms are possible tomorrow from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach, otherwise mostly sunny days and fair nights through early next week. Highs around 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 79 degrees. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… looks like a risk of showers and storms Wednesday and Thursday (May 18-19), followed by drier weather Friday and over the weekend (May 20-22). Highs will be in the 80s. Get more information about the tournament here.
