A Blanket Of Moisture Over Alabama

| August 9, 2016 @ 3:16 pm

RADAR CHECK: As expected, the most numerous tropical showers are over the western half of Alabama this afternoon… they are moving west, and dumping heavy rain.

And, because of the clouds and showers, temperatures are only in the 80s across the great state of Alabama. Showers will slowly fade tonight, but some could linger into the late night hours, moving around the top of an upper low spinning over Southeast Alabama.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: The weather won’t change much on these three days. The upper low will drift westward, and each day the sky will be mostly cloudy with occasional tropical showers likely; potential for the heaviest rain should be over the western half of the state, but East Alabama could see some beneficial rain as well. Afternoon highs will hold in the mid to upper 80s, well below average for mid-August in Alabama.

Here is the projected rain for the next seven days from WPC… your total could vary…

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Not much change Saturday; more clouds than sun with a few passing showers and storms likely… the high will be in the upper 80s. The latest GFS run hints that the upper ridge will be stronger Sunday, with showers and storms becoming fewer in number along with a high around 90 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like temperatures get back into the low 90s; partly sunny days and “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms” each day. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Only about 1 to 3 hours of sunshine each day through Friday on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach, with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. In fact, a flash flood watch is in effect now…

Showers and storms begin to thin out this weekend, with a slow increase in the amount of sunshine daily. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

TROPICS: Tropical storm formation is not expected across the Atlantic basin over the next five days.
