Tropical Showers; Very Muggy

YOU CAN WEAR THIS AIR: Dewpoints will remain sky high (76-79 degrees) across Alabama through Friday, and with an upper low drifting into Mississippi the overall pattern won’t change much. Generally cloudy conditions with occasional passing showers or thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Heavier showers will drop lots of rain in a short amount of time, and we should remain below 90 degrees due to the clouds and showers. The axis of heaviest rain will be south and west of here over the next five days…

Interesting to note that precipitable water values will approach 3 inches across parts of the Gulf Coast region today and tomorrow, as high as it ever gets. And, we should also note a a flash flood watch remains in effect for parts of the coast, including Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama…

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The upper low begins to lose it’s identity, and weather conditions will gradually become a bit drier and brighter. Expect a mix of sun and clouds both days, with upper 80s Saturday and low 90s Sunday. Showers and storms remain possible, but they will be more scattered in nature, and mainly during the 2-9 p.m. time frame.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like some pretty typical August weather. Hot, humid days with “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. Highs generally in the low 90s… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Only about 1 to 3 hours of sunshine daily on the Gulf Coast through Saturday with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Rain could be heavy at times, and a flash flood watch is in effect. Highs will be generally in the 80s… expect increasing amounts of sun and fewer showers by Sunday and next week. TROPICS: Amazingly quiet for mid-August; tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
