Dense Fog Across Parts of the Area Tonight

| December 12, 2016 @ 10:39 pm

Clearing skies are creating the environment for excellent radiational cooling tonight. This cooling has lowered the air temperature near the surface to the dew point and the result is widespread dense fog. The graphic shows the counties affected with visibility values overlaid on the amp.

Kudos to Scott Martin for pointing out this possibility in his excellent post 90 minutes ago.

Visibilities are down to 1/4 of a mile at Jasper, Talladega and Gadsden. They are down to 1.25 miles at Anniston and 0.5 miles at Fort Payne.

Please reduce your speed if you will be driving tonight as patches of dense fog can severely hamper visibility.
