The trough just to our west managed to squeeze out a little bit of rain yesterday. The most I saw among the reports came from the Skywatchers – and thanks for those – with the greatest just slightly more than a quarter of an inch. I went to the grocery store with my wife yesterday afternoon and got a few sprinkles on the windshield but only 2 hundredths of an inch in the gauge – enough to settle the dust from mowing earlier.

Well that trough is still in the picture but weaker with only some clouds and perhaps a few patches of some light rain today. But after today it looks like the next 7 days will be dry, dry, dry. And temperatures will be right around the values you would expect for the latter half of September with lows in the lower 60s and highs in the lower 80s.

The westerlies remain pretty active this week but far enough north of us to not affect our weather. And the tropics are pretty quiet. One area just south-southeast of Puerto Rico is showing some signs of organization. In fact, a Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate that area today. The various computer models suggest a north-northwest track so heavy rains are likely over Hispaniola and Puerto Rico and adjoining areas. Another area of disturbed weather was moving into Central America with no signs for development.

Our little trough manages to move east of us but takes up residence on the Southeast US coast. There the GFS is suggesting it will meander around for the latter part of the week. However, it does not appear that it will get close enough to be a concern for us for any rain. Certainly will bear watching since it is so close, but it is not expected to be an issue in our weather.

Out into voodoo country, the GFS is still showing a big trough around October 6th with some pretty cold air coming into the Northwest US. The GFS showed that yesterday, too, but it was on the 5th of October. We’ll watch but that is pure voodoo!!!
