Warm rivers on satellite

Temperatures are running about 5 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday morning, but much of Alabama will still drop near freezing, with plenty of frost again. The warmer air didn’t really blow in here on west or south winds in the past 24 hours; it’s just that the ground is still warm just below the surface, and the full sunshine today helped warm the atmosphere up.

With very calm winds, infrared satellite pictures that detect the temperature of the earth’s surface show where the rivers and lakes (still near 70 degrees) are on clear mornings. Look at this satellite image without any maps…you can tell fairly well where the states are by the warm rivers. Below is the same image with a few bodies of water labeled. Cool (literally hmm).
