A Warming Trend Ahead
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
RIGHT NOW: Not quite as cold this morning; Birmingham is at 37 degrees at 5:00, but the colder valleys are back in the 20s. Vic Bell at Scrougeout (northeast of Gadsden) is reporting 28. John Talbot at Concord is at 31. Ronald Hughes at Coker reports 31, while Jim Higgins at Hamilton has 30 degrees. We sure appreciate our Skywatchers getting up early in the day and reporting to us on the IM conference on these cold mornings.
DRY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Our gradual warming trend continues; we should be close to 70 today, followed by low 70s tomorrow and mid 70s over the weekend. Dry air means no rain, and mornings will remain chilly, but not as cold as recent days. The dry weather continues into the first half of next week.
OUR NEXT RAIN: The GFS continues the idea of a rain event toward the end of next week. The 00Z run hints the best chance will come Thursday night, followed by much colder air by Friday and the following weekend. We will be able to nail down the details by the weekend as we get within our seven day window. There will be some decent dynamic forcing, so if the air can become unstable we might have a strong storm or two. Don’t forget our fall tornado season begins Saturday.
WAY INTO THE LAND OF VOODOO: The 00Z GFS does show a setup for strong storms around November 12, but that might vanish on later runs. We have not seen much consistency in the 7 to 15 day time frame, which is to be expected this time of the year.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.
STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 15 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years), and learn from one of the most brilliant weather researchers in the country, our own Dr. Tim Coleman. We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
I am headed to Gadsden this morning to speak to the kids at Donahoo Elementary School… I will be back in the office by early afternoon and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 3:30 or so. Enjoy the day!
