Contrasty Weather

I don’t think ‘contrasty’ is really a word, but the next couple of days are certainly going to be well described by contrasts. One of those contrasts this morning has to do with temperatures. Where the clouds came and hung around yesterday evening, overnight temperatures stayed in the lower 40s, but if the sky cleared as it did over much of the Tennessee River Valley, the mercury dropped into the upper 20s and lower 30s.
I’ve also got a nice plot from my weather station which shows the impact the clouds can have on the temperature.
Another contrast could be seen on radar where our remote sensing equipment detected a few sprinkles though I doubt anyone had more than a hundredth of an inch.
The mixture of sun and clouds will hang around today which makes the temperature forecast a bear to make. The clouds should hold afternoon highs down a tad but if the sun does break out in your location you could see the high climb to near 60. Mid 50s is probably a good number for most spots in Central Alabama.
The upper trough sharpens overnight and Monday bringing a cold front through Central Alabama on Monday. I think most people will see rain, but I just don’t think that rainfall amounts will be more than a quarter to a half inch.
Sunshine should return on Tuesday and stick with us through Thanksgiving Day. Temperatures remain cooler than typical for this time of year with lows mainly in the 30s and highs mainly in the 50s. The next weather system is projected to bring another round of rain chances to Central Alabama on Friday and early Saturday. With lots of attention focused on the Iron Bowl, interest in the weather will be high. Right now according to the latest GFS, the weather should be improving with the rain east and south of Central Alabama by game time at 2:30 pm.
A long wave trough position over the eastern US sets up keeping Alabama and the Southeast US unseasonably cool through the following week. And the below seasonal idea remains the trend into the much longer range forecast with some shot at rain but no significant storm system on the horizon.
