Alabama Getting Wetter
Rain continues advancing into Alabama from the west this afternoon and the rain was increasing in intensity in some areas. At midafternoon, it was raining over most of the state from near Cullman and Hartselle southward into the south/central part of the state not too far from the Florida border. The heaviest rain was over the extreme south, especially in Monroe and Conecuh Counties, which includes the Monroeville/Evergreen area. Moderate rain was also indicated in parts of Central Alabama between Birmingham and Montgomery.
This is a fairly large wet-weather system, which included some thunderstorms in progress over extreme SW Mississippi and parts of Louisiana. The rain was spreading toward the ENE. The heaviest rain was over South/Central Mississippi.
The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory until 5:30 for these counties in Central and SW Mississippi:
Copiah
Hines
Claiborne
Jefferson
This includes the city of Jackson. They also issued the same thing for Tensas Parish in NE Louisiana. NWS advises that 1 to 2 inches of rain has already occured in that area in the last three hours and at least another inch is likely.
Back home in Alabama, we look for rain to be increasing this evening and overnight. It could become locally heavy at times, especially late tonight and through most of Saturday morning. Here in Central Alabama, there is a good chance that many communities will get around 1.50 inches of rain and maybe more.
