Quick Afternoon Forecast Thoughts
Just a reminder we are on a holiday schedule… just one Weather Xtreme video per day. Scroll down for the one I produced this morning.
*No 5:00 News on ABC 33/40 today… but we hope to have one at 6:00 if football ends soon enough. The 10:00 News will be on time tonight along with the Friday Night Blitz.
*Interesting to note the rotating storms to the west; SPC has introduce a slight risk of severe for a small part of Louisiana and West Mississippi. A tornado warning remains in effect for Copiah and Lincoln counties as I write this. There is a very narrow tongue of instability over there; we still do not expect any severe weather here tonight or tomorrow. Maybe some elevated storms, however, but nothing severe.
*Models are a little more aggressive on rain totals for Central Alabama… the NAM is printing 0.95″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is even wetter with 1.45″. I think it is safe to forecast one-half to one inch of rain, with some spots getting more. Radar shows rain becoming widespread across Alabama now; most of the rain is light in nature. Take the rain gear to high school football playoff games tonight.
*It still seems like the rain will taper off by midday tomorrow, and hopefully rain will not fall during tomorrow’s Iron Bowl game. But, we simply can’t promise that in this kind of pattern, and we will continue to mention a chance of some light rain or drizzle during the game, with a kickoff temperature near 60 degrees.
*I still think Sunday will be a day of falling temperatures; we could reach the mid 50s by mid-morning, but we fall into the 40s Sunday afternoon. Snow flurries are possible Sunday night and Monday in the colder air, and we will have a hard time getting out of the 30s Monday with a very cold north wind.
We will keep you posted on developments as this system continues to impact Alabama….
