Tornado Watch Has Expired For South and East Central Alabama

At 12:00PM, the tornado watch was allowed to expire.

The tornado watch has been canceled for Calhoun, Cherokee, Coosa, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega Counties.

The tornado watch continues for Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa Counties till 12:00 PM CDT.

More counties have been removed from the tornado watch.

The following counties have been removed from the watch: Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Jefferson, Perry and Shelby.

The Tornado Watch continues for Barbour, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Etowah, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Randolph, Russell, St. Clair, Talladega and Tallapoosa counties till 12:00 PM CDT

From Gary Goggins of NWS Birmingham… Based on current trends and speaking with SPC, we’re going to start clearing some counties from the current Tornado Watch, in preparation for another watch later on this afternoon.

NWS Birmingham has removed these counties from the current Tornado Watch…
Greene, Hale, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa

The Tornado Watch continues in effect until 12PM for these counties…
Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Jefferson, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa.

Latest Mesoscale Discussion from the SPC has parts of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina being considered of an upgrade to a possible high risk for the remainder of this afternoon and into the evening hours tonight, due to rich moisture-filled air and strong buoyancy extending into these areas. For the state of Alabama, it will likely be for east and southeastern parts of Central Alabama.

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 124 until 12:00PM CDT today which replaces a portion of Severe Thunderstorm Watch 123. The new watch is valid for the following areas…
