Further south, a moderate to strong thunderstorm was across extreme South St. Clair County in the Cook Springs-Pell City area. All of them were moving NE.

SNOW AND TORNADOES
Today is the anniversary of the great super outbreak of tornadoes on April 3, 1974. Scroll down and see a big bunch of information about that great event from Bill Murray and James Spann. Today is also the anniversary of another unheard of event in Alabama. On April 3, 1987, a sudden heavy blanket of snow fell across parts of Central Alabama. There was 5 to 7 inches in the Birmingham area and in nearby sections of the state. Trees were completely green, azaleas and dogwoods were blooming. There was a lot of tree damage because it was a very heavy wet snow. I remember taking some color slides of pink dogwood blossoms barely peeping out from under a blanket of snow in NE Birmingham. The snow was unexpected and when it started falling, temperatures were around 40.
